ORAC Ranking and Orac Food List

If you have circulation problems of any kind the most important thing for you to do is change and improve your diet. Research is improving everyday and the information is showing that a diet high in antioxidant content can clear vessels of blockages as well as prevent them from occurring.

I have posted two new articles on this subject for I believe it is very important. The first article is about the spice cloves which is the highest ranking antioxidant food source on the planet and the one antioxidant I take almost ever day.

The second article is the most complete food list showing the antioxidant ORAC rankings. This list was compiled from more than one resource and is the most complete list I have seen on the internet.

Oral EDTA taken in large enough quantities will lower the amount of plaque in your blood vessels by chelating the plaque out. However, it has been my experience in order to really clean out your vessels and keep them clean you need a diet high in fruits and vegetables which means high in ORAC score.

Another way to insure you are getting enough antioxidants is to take antioxidant supplements or whole food supplements high in the fruits and vegetables with high antioxidants. Since I have been doing this now for over 20 years I have found some of the best supplements on the market. You can see them in my store here.

Pomegranate Juice Clears Arteries Signifigantly

Until recently there has been three options for clearing clogged arteries.

  • By Pass Surgery
  • Angioplasty
  • Chelation Therapy

The first two are dangerous, painful and expensive. The third chelation therapy has been the standard for clearing clogged arteries of both heavy metals and plaque. But now there are other methods which have been used for a long while but now scientific eviedence has shown that certain foods are a very powerful chelators.

In recent studies pomegranate juice has been shown to clear existing plaque by as much as 35%. As you know sometimes it only takes reducing plaque by a small percentage to reduce symptoms to a tolerable level. So reducing plaque by 35% is a giant step forward for those people who have vascular disease.

In the study research doctors gave one half the patients a shot glass ( 1.7 oz.) per day of pomegranate juice and one half the people pomegranate flavored water. This study was a well designed placebo controlled study just the kind the scientists like. Niether group changed any other habits or made any life style changes. The only change and addition was drinking the juice. Throughout the study the doctors measured the patients arteries using the most modern ultra sound equipment.

The people drinking the flavored water had a slight increase in plaque the people drinking pomegranate juice had a decrease. It was not just a slight decrease either it was a whopping 13% in three months and after a year it reached 35%. Folks this is not only significant it is astounding. Imagine that you have either peripheral vascular disease or clogged arteries in your heart and by simply changing your diet slightly you can get rid of 35% of your plaque in a year. That is one third of the plaque. Your symptoms would go away and many 1000′s of people would be considered to be medically clear. Remember if your arteries are less than 50% clogged you are considered medically to be OK!

I have been doing health research now since 1980 and the research shows more clearly everyday that good food is the answer to good health. You cannot find optimal health in 90% of fast food restaurants nor can you find it in a box or a can. Processed foods are killing everyone and good food is bringing them back. We are still all going to die however, you cab live longer and stronger with a wide variety of good healthy food.

Cocoa Benefits Aids Hypertension

Cocoa benefits research shows it aids hypertension. This is the top of the heap for chocolate lovers. You can now have your chocolate and eat it to. Lowering high blood pressure helps heart disease and every type of vascular disease like PAD and PVD.

I have been writing about the importance of diet and diets ability to prevent and even cure disease. Even if we have adopted a new diet lifestyle it is always fun when you find a food that 99.9% of everybody likes and it is good for you.

New research by Dr Ingrid Persson showed that 16 co-workers who consumed 75 grams a day of dark chocolate reduced there ACE activity by 18%. This type of reduction is the same as those observed when taking antihypertension medications said the Dr Persson. “Our results indicate that lifestyle changes, with the help of foods that contain high catechin and procyanidin content, prevent cardiovascular disease,” said Dr. Persson.

The dark chocolate used in Dr Perssons study contained 72% cocoa. In this quantity it inhibits the ACE activity. This is what all the ACE inhibitors drugs are trying to do.

Another study which show the same results, was one done by a Cologne Germany based scientist and he stated “The magnitude of the hypotensive effects of cocoa is clinically noteworthy; it is in the range that is usually achieved with monotherapy of beta-blockers or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.” Read ACE inhibitors.

If you have clogged arteries you have cardiovascular disease and now another food can help you battle this condition. As research advances more into natural means to prevent and cure disease I bet we will eventually find that a good diet is all we need to stay healthy for a long lifetime.

Foods like dark chocolate contain the polyphenols catechins and flavonols. These polyphenols are powerful antioxidants which destroy the free radicals which have gotten out of hand. Free radicals are thought to be one of the causes of blood vessel damage which can lead to clogged arteries.

If anyone knows a source for dark chocolate that is the same as the chocolate used in the research please make a comment or send an email to let us know. It needs to have 72% cocoa or better..

Carotenoids In Foods

Carotenoids are fat-soluble pigments found principally in plants, algae, and photosynthetic bacteria. They play a critical role in the biological process known as photosynthesis. They are responsible for over 600 richly colored molecules which are the red, orange, and yellow hues of plant leaves, fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Natures colors identify the carotenoids and that tells us where the super dense nutrients can be found to provide us with the foods for our optimal health. Examples of these plant colors are carrots and oranges, the reds of peppers and tomatoes, and the pinks of flamingo’s and salmon. The brighter and darker the colors the more dense are the nutrients.

The most common types of diet carotenoids are alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene. Alpha-carotene, beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin are provitamin A carotenoids, meaning they can be converted by the body to retinol carotene and xanthophylls. An example: carrots are carotenes and marigold petals are xanthophyll’s. Scientists must stay awake nights thinking of all these different names. If you have circulation problems like PVD and PAD then you need to make carotinoids a big part of your diet. Antioxidants are very important to a healthy diet. All of the foods with color are powerful antioxidants. Research coming out every day now shows that you can reverse heart and circulatory disease with diet alone if you catch it at the early stages. Doctors believe that arteries are still effective without problems or symptoms if your arteries are below 50% clogged.

Most everyone over the age of 30 has some degree of vessel blockage. If you have been a vegetarian all your adult life you probably have very little. But 86% of all of use are not vegetarians. Further we eat a diet full of fat, process food and sugar and American children are well known for not liking or eating vegetables.

I talk almost every day with people who have circulation problems. I have gone through all of this just like you are going through it. I have done the chelation therapy and I have done the diet changes. In the beginning I thought I was nuts but the pain and discomfort of disease overcame all that and let me tell you it was worth it.

Carotenoids are an important part of any eating program. It must become a way of life if you want to decrease your chances of major disease.
